Pine Tree Post

Hey CSL families,

Here at camp, the session is in full swing, and the first week is just about up. In Cayuga, the cabins are starting to smell, each kid has at least a little color, and there's always a roofball game to join up with. My favorite time of the day has been rest hour, where the campers can be found playing a variety of sports with their friends, playing cards in the cabins, or just sitting on the porch talking to their bunk-mates. Sometimes the true magic of camp can be found during these unstructured minutes of the day, when campers have the opportunity to really get to know their peers and plant the seeds of life long friendships.

Yesterday and today was the first Shabbat of the summer, a truly special experience for any generation of camper. We welcomed the Sabbath on Friday night with a classic camp Shabbat dinner, followed by services down at the waterfront. I've always loved Friday night services as a time to reflect on the past week full of hectic activity and memories, and as a brief pause in camp action to calm down and appreciate the experiences past. The campers enjoyed an evening of song and prayer, and the Cayugans ended their night with a village movie on the porch of one of the cabins.

It's been quite the week and start tot the session, and I can't contain my excitement for the days to come with my incredible campers. CSL 2014 has just begun.
