July 2014 Blog Launch
As you read this, your son or daughter has probably already
arrived at CSL. We have been preparing for this day really since Summer 2013
ended. The staff began arriving here on June 1st, preparing across
myriad areas. In my 15 summers on staff, I have never felt that more ready; and while I am one to use some hyperbole from
time to time, I feel very confident in this statement. There are many new faces
on the staff this summer but a very healthy mix with a ton of very raw energy. The
“golden age” of CSL is still in full force as we enter 2014 with the two
highest enrolled sessions in our 87-year history. It isn’t just a random
occurrence either – over the last decade, we have dramatically elevated our
focus on our program, which has become recognized as the very strongest across
Jewish overnight camps.
Among the many improvements to CSL over the last few year,
our Media efforts are right at the core. We work extremely hard to aggressively
communicate with our various constituencies at a level that is unmatched. This
very space, the CSL Summer Blog, began in 2010 and our content has both
increased and improved each year. The Blogs operates in concert with Twitter
(@csl_official) and Instagram (@csl_official) as well as Facebook and bunk1. We
have a very talented Media Department (part of the Programming team) consisting
of four full-time people as well as Organizers from each village. Together, we
are committed to painting a picture that is accurate and beautiful for families,
alumni, and prospective campers.
It is undoubtedly challenging for you parents to be away
from your sons and daughters, you can rest-assured that you will not need to
only rely on their letters to get a sense of what they are doing while at CSL.
During the course of the summer, you can expect to see the following on our
blog:
-
Stories and commentary from each village at
least twice a day throughout the summer including thoughts from campers and
staff alike
-
Programming updates, summaries, and stories on a
regular basis
-
Judaic insights from across camp, highlighting
major weekly themes and content on the Parsha and related Shabbat Theme
-
Weekly summaries from each specialty area
-
Weekly updates from each Hobby Group
-
Alumni perspectives spanning the eras
-
Important and relevant announcements
-
Frequent video uploads to Vimeo, summaries of
programs and various hype videos (www.vimeo.com/campsenecalake)
-
Continuous photo uploads to Instagram
(@csl_official)
-
Continuous updates on Twitter.com
(@csl_official) including every blog and Instagram post as they happens,
directly linked (follow us on Twitter for constant “Table of Contents” across
all media outlets)
-
Photos uploaded to bunk1.com on a regular basis
And most importantly, you may have noticed that we have recently
launched a new website (www.campsenecalake.com).
It will eventually host our blog and other media endeavors, ultimately becoming
the ‘command center’ for all CSL content, all year long (expect this to take
place in the Fall).
While this blog launch is covering the bases of what to
expect from our media this summer, it does not speak much to the camp program
itself for the coming summer. You can expect to hear from me and my staff
frequently about everything happening at CSL this summer so stay tuned and
check back as much as possible (we generally average 3000-4000 visitors a day).
Stay connected. We hope you stay forever.
See You Soon.
Sincerely,
Ari Baum, Program
Director
