Ropes Write Up

Today was my first day staffing ropes periods with campers!! It began with low ropes with the combined bunks of oldest Mohawk, M4 and M5. We started out with some simple games such as "bang" and "minefield" to test communication and listening skills. For the next hour, we split the Mohicans up by bunk to do the "spiderweb" and the "Mohawk Walk"  elements where teamwork, communication, and strategy are necessary for success.

The next group of campers were the three youngest bunks of Onondaga, O-1, O-2, and O-3. They did the high ropes activities of the Rock Wall and the Catwalk. Each girl achieved their goals going however high on the wall or far across the catwalk they felt comfortable going. As an Onondaga counselor, it gave me great pride to watch these girls recognize their limits, and then be willing to go just a little bit further to improve their skills and expand their comfort zones. I even learned new things today about ropes that I can definitely use when making future choices when it comes to set up and taking down certain elements of ropes.

All things considered, today is what I would call a success!!
