Campouts have not always been the strongest for Cayuga due to a mix of logistical issues, etc. but the Cayuga-Onondaga optional campout on August 9thand 10th was unique in the smoothness in which it ran. The fifteen Cayugans and eight Onondagans behaved well, regardless of the fact that for many of them it was their first time ever camping out in the wilderness. They had the ability to have fun, explore nature, and expand outside of their initial comfort zones. We began the day at Cayuga Nature Center, where the kids had a chance to learn about animals and hike for a while. Then, they had the opportunity to enjoy a six-story treehouse, which turned out to be the highlight of the day for most of the kids. The campsite was perfect, with natural divides for the male and female campers with a pavilion in the middle and a fire circle for cooking. The kids alternated between learning how to cook and clean in the wilderness and playing games with the Tiyulim (hiking and nature) staff. By the end of the night, they were thoroughly tired out, but also thoroughly happy with the amazing time they had. That's all from Cayuga! Mike Pascutoi C-3 Ropes activity counselor |
