Greetings Followers,
Usually when you read this page you will see pieces from different staff and campers talking about how they have been spending their time here at camp. Today we would like to stray from this usual format because we feel that what we are about to express to all of you is far more valuable.
Today is a day of extreme melancholy for Mohawk. Mohawks favorite person is no longer with us. Our Unit-Head, Greg Kreitzer, was forced to leave camp today in order to attend orientation for his new job as a tennis coach for St. Laurence. While this is a great opportunity for Greg, we were reluctant to let him leave. For those of you who do not know Greg he is one of the most important people in camp. His Ideas and drive for success are why Mohawk has been so successful for the eight sessions has lived and worked there; four of these sessions holding the title of unit head.
His infectious personality spread like wildfire through out Mohawk this summer. There isn't a camper in camp that Greg couldn't get to smile after a few minutes of talking to them. Every day there was a grin ear to ear on his face, no matter how run down or upset he may have actually been. When kids would see him walking back into the village they would run to him and give him hugs. Almost any free time he had would be spent either hanging out with campers in the village or planning something he knew they would enjoy. At lunch today kids were screaming until their faces were beat red just for him. This was followed by multiple hugs from Mohican campers. Campers from every other village were even lining up to say goodbye.
Almost every staff member in Mohawk has had Greg as a counselor at one point and this experience affected us in ways you would not believe. Being with him on a daily bases one grows so much. Without him in our lives we would not be the strong willed and levelheaded men we are today. His constant positive mentality forces you to grow into the best version of yourself. He has the ability to connect to everyone he meets on a personal level which in turn gives people something they would have never know they could live without, his friendship. His loyalty is unmatched and his wisdom is beyond his years.
This man doesn't understand how much he is loved. He may be too hard on himself sometimes, but we assure you there was never a feeling of disappointment directed at Greg. He is by far the most loved, most appreciated, most influential person in every single persons hearts here in Mohawk. Mohawk will never feel the same without him in it.
From day one of orientation this year Greg had expressed his desire for Mohawk to "win the summer" by doing our absolute best at all times no mater how tired or annoyed we are. I can promise you Greg succeeded in making this happen, and we haven't even finished our second session yet. Greg your spirit lives on here in Mohawk and we promise to live up to every one of your expectations.
So here's to you Greg; we wish you luck this year and can't wait to see you back here next year
With an exponential amount of love,
The men of Mohawk
