The O-Rec is our most versatile building in camp; often, we fit all of camp in there for specific performances. Acts that have graced the stage range from camper stand-up comedy to the Camp Band, from cartooning hobby group videos to the Camp Play. For many people on that stage—campers and staff—it is their first and maybe only chance to perform in front of hundreds of people. Through Campstocks and Color Wars, many performers have overcome their assumed stage-fright to show all of camp their talent. These hidden talents can be extraordinary.
Last night for Hobby Culmination some new acts came to camp. To start the night, Guitar & Music Hobby Group played their rendition of Lady Gaga’s “You and I.” Then, Project Runway hobby group created the first runway show in the O-Rec and presented a CSL summer line. After that, Acting & Theater presented “Counselor on the Roof,” which focused on the distinctive villages and nuances of Camp Seneca Lake. Following the play, Pit Cooking presented a cooking show called “The Pit,” which showed how the group cooked the pulled chicken sandwiches that everyone ate for dinner. (“The Pit” can be found on Vimeo) Finally, all of camp viewed Cartooning Hobby Group’s video. The video features drawings and voices from the campers in the hobby group as the characters lose a ball in a haunted house.
The night provided opportunities for campers to show everything that they have been working on for the past 4 weeks to all of camp. This opportunity encapsulates everything that the O-Rec represents.
