The front door of the office creaks open and slams shut. Bang. I no longer cringe, but rather, I smile. I think back to all of the history this porch holds. Camp Seneca Lake's operation has changed drastically over time; Camp has grown, shrunk and grown again, people turn over and programs change in nature but the office porch withstands it all. To me, it serves as a symbol of the lifelong impact Camp has on every individual it touches. The porch sees first days and lasts, reunions and goodbyes. It serves as a meeting place for staff and a landmark for campers. However, its significance is often overlooked. To many, it is just a building that holds paperwork and lost and found, mail and the directors. But as I enter my 13th year at Camp, I am certain that the sound of the office door, the slightly uncomfortable adirondack chairs, and the worn gray painted floor, will always bring back memories of my time at Camp Seneca Lake.
The village of Tuscarora is a unique experience for many reasons, one being its ability to help campers see Camp (and the world!) in an entirely new light. The staff works tirelessly to ensure that each and every kid that steps foot in the village has the opportunity to grow as a person, leader, friend and member of the Camp Seneca Lake community. My hope is that each camper and staff will take this opportunity, immerse themselves in it and then cherish it forever. I cannot begin to describe how excited and honored I am to be a part of this experience.
Let the final countdown begin,
