Where has the time gone? It is hard to believe that the July
session has come to a close and camp is once again empty for a little while.
The last several days, although jam-packed with exciting programs, flew by
extremely fast.
On Wednesday, Tikkun Olam culminated with an entire day
spent out by the new Saturday Shabbat location.
Oldest Seneca, Oldest Mohawk, and Tusc worked relentlessly to construct
enough benches to fit 400 people, rebuild a fence along the edge, clear a trail
down to a waterfront fire pit, and create a bimah
in front of the benches where staff and campers can stand to speak on
Shabbat. It was a long day, but the ending
result speaks for itself; the area is calming, meditative, beautiful, and
spiritual. On Saturday, after John
Golden cut the “ribbon” to signify the opening of the site, we enjoyed our
first Shabbat service here.
The week quickly continued along with Hobby Culmination and
Final Banquet to finish the session.
Despite the rain, the Final Campfire in the O-Rec was one of the most
emotional Final Campfires the July session has ever experienced. We already miss those campers who left for
the summer and we are greatly looking forward to welcoming back all of those
who are returning, along with all of the new campers in August.
