July Final Campfire Speech
Tuscarora. To many people at camp Tusc is something you spend your younger years looking forward to and anticipating. The one chance, that one moment you get to prove yourself, to make a difference at camp, the time where you create your legacy and become remembered. Most people come into this village with the expectation and the idea that you have to be the best Tusc ever. The majority of people think that in order to achieve this goal you must cheer the loudest at meals and have the largest presence in camp. But once your Tusc experience begins you notice that your mindset shifts. It's not about being the best Tusc ever because in reality the best Tusc ever doesn't exist. Tuscarora is something you will never truly understand until you are on the inside and experiencing it for yourself. Each person has a unique Tusc experience and it is something that can not be defined. It doesn't matter if you are the loudest or the most intimidating because that's not the true meaning behind the village of Tuscarora. Tusc is the place where you grow into a young adult and change into the best version of yourself. This, however, is not something that is easily achieved. There are struggles that each and every one of us face but we overcome them with our 48 brothers and sisters behind us. They are there to help us stay afloat when we feel like we are about to sink. As josh sham always says "sometimes you have to have some low days to appreciate the great days otherwise everything would just seem average." I think this really embodies the spirit of Tusc because it's not always about having fun. It's about the experiences we make, the good and the bad ones. The pathway might not always be smooth. There will be times where we will struggle but together as one group, all 48 of us, we can accomplish anything.
