Hello CSL Parents and Families,
July has come and gone so fast and now it is time for August! We did some amazing things in July in Cayuga and had such a wonderful session. However, this August promises to be just as good, if not better!
This is my seventeenth summer at CSL and second as Cayuga Unit Head. I started coming to CSL in 1997 as a youngest Cayugan and continued on through Senior Camper summer in 2004. Since then I have been a CIT, bunk counselor, and worked in programming. I am ecstatic to continue working in Cayuga this summer because this has always been my “home” village.
In all the summers I have spent at Camp, none seem to have been as busy and fulfilling as this past July. What we did as a Camp, and in Cayuga, was so amazing. When speaking at the Final Campfire in July, the one word that kept coming to mind to describe Cayuga was confidence. The cubs of Cayuga really demonstrated a great deal of confidence, as well did the rest of Camp. There seemed to be something special in the air this past session that brewed confidence among all campers and staff. I kept thinking to myself, where in the world do we get what we have at Camp Seneca Lake? We have eight to ten year old boys singing and dancing in front of 400 people, reading speeches in front of 400 people, leading cheers and going crazy in front of 400 people, and even telling stand up jokes in front of 400 people. It is truly remarkable what these kids do and how they do it. Fight Song for example was a night to go down in history for Cayuga and Camp. Every single camper in Camp performed on stage and stepped out of their comfort zone to put on a show that was phenomenal. The confidence displayed by every camper, especially Cayugan’s, was really special and showed why Camp Seneca Lake is the best place to be.
The Cayuga staff has been home resting for a short few days to get ready for the August session. We have already planned some amazing activities and events that we cannot wait to do. The Cayugan’s are going to have a blast this session and the staff will be leading them with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.
Just like the July parents can attest to, the August parents can expect your children to return back to you at the end of August the same way you dropped them off… however, please note that they will be smarter, stronger, more confident, and more independent than you remember!
We are excited to be a part of your child’s Camp experience. You can expect to hear a lot from our village throughout this session through our various media applications. It is going to be an amazing time at Camp Seneca Lake and we are going to especially get after it in Cayuga!
Sincerely,
Max Krieger
Cayuga Unit Head
