What an exciting day it's been! The girls were all psyched to join their friends and bunkmates for their first day at CSL. I am the waterfront activity counselor for O-5, and this was my first time with most of the girls in my bunk.
We played some icebreakers and went through the basic first-day rotation: the girls got their CSL shirts, took bunk photos, tested their swimming, got checked for lice, and visited the waterfront. We also had some time to unpack and get ready for dinner.
After dinner, we had village night. The entire village was split into 10 different families made up of girls of all ages and two staff members. We got to know each other and made family crests based on the last names we gave ourselves, all starting with the letter O (my family was the Oompaloompas). We then went back to the village and started learning the Onondaga cheers.
After that, we all headed down to the fire circle for opening ceremonies. All the villages and specialty areas performed for the campers. Onondaga staff danced to Miley Cyrus's "Hoedown Throwdown," and the campers were extremely involved! We were all excited to see the fire sign and the first fight song commercial of the session! Just from today, I know that this month will be so much fun for all of us! I can't wait for the weeks to come!
