The Senecan Scribe

Hello friends and family of Seneca!

Writing to you is Mollie Freedman-Weiss, S-5 counselor and first time blogger! After a hardy breakfast in the dining hall, the oldest Senecan ladies embarked on a 1 day campout in Watkins Glen. Despite some early anxieties about hiking up to our campsite, the girls were nothing but smiles for each of the 824 stairs that Roz M. from S-6 counted as we climbed.

The Gorges of Watkins Glen are breathtaking and we are so lucky to be showered with knowledge from out Tiyulim staff about geology, plant life, earth science, and the history of our surroundings. Not surprisingly, when we arrived at the Olympic size pool at our campsite, the girls got comfortable behind the male lifeguards who they became fast friends with. Some of our braver girls spent the afternoon jumping and diving off the diving boards at the pool.

Erica Roos, S-5, describes, "my favorite part of the day was setting up the tents when we finally arrived at our campsite, I felt really accomplished and at 1 with my surroundings." As I write, the girls are in 1 of 3 groups, journaling about the day, cooking our dinner, or gathering materials for a blazing fire that they will ignite once the excruciating sun sets for the night.

After our mexican dinner of bean burritos we have a fun scavenger hunt planned for the girls followed by time to relax and reflect by the fire and an early night to bed...until midnight when we wake the girls up to celebrate the 2 session Senecan, Phoebe West's birthday! !! So much excitement for the Sencan sisters in 1 day.

Adventurously yours,
Mollie, S-5 counselor
