Hello Again!
Shabbat discussion groups went very well this morning. Thanks to all staff members who led these great activities!
Youngest Onondaga and Cayuga decorated velvet art images of Jerusalem. Middle Onondaga and Cayuga created and then performed dramatic interpretations of from where their food comes while learning about Birkat HaMazon, the blessing after meals, and Oldest Onondaga and Cayuga shared their "Mount Sinai Moment," as in, a pivotal moment in their life, as reaching Mount Sinai was for the Israelites. Youngest Seneca and Mohawk learned about Aleinu and the idea of a day when God is one, and then created mural art to reflect that theme. Middle Seneca and Mohawk read and discussed some traditional Jewish environmental stories while learning about Jewish environmental ethics, and Oldest Seneca and Mohawk learned about the importance of personalized historical memory to Jewish tradition - think "when I left Egypt..." - and shared their earliest memories, general and Jewish, and how those experiences have helped shape their lives. Tusc explored the concept "Next Year in Jerusalem," and discussed the pivotal role that Jerusalem - and the yearning to be in it - as played in Jewish tradition over the past two thousand years. Campers reflected on their version of the perfect place, and shared with their village.
Shabbat Shalom!
