Oneida Speaks

The last week of camp has been one of the most exhausting, yet very awarding weeks I, or any of the other Oneidans, have ever experienced. Throughout the week we blew up 400 balloons, moved 300 pound blocks of ice, filled 7,000 water balloons, and much much more. This was all in preparation for the long awaited Color War V. On Monday morning Oneida showed up to breakfast ready to work, not yet knowing any details surrounding Color War. We spoke with Ari Baum, learning that the theme of the Color War was Fire and Ice. Then we were assigned tasks that needed to be done in the next two days. Finally on Tuesday, after days of preparation, the Color War was broken to the rest of camp.

The next day Oneida woke up excited for the first full day of Color War. We prepped the morning event, Arctic Warfare. Then, through 7 rounds, we officiated the event. Afterwards it was time to prep for the afternoon events, which were more on the artistic side. The afternoon concluded with a village relay, which we also staffed. Finally, after the showdown at the O-Rec, the lifeguard Oneidans helped staff the Hydroglow event, while the others passed out snack and helped control the crowd.

The next day we continued to staff and prep the various events. One of the highlights of this day , was when we helped staff the Frost Brigade . In this event we were able to help enforce the rules . I believe that this event really helped Oneida gain a sense of integrity . It would have been very easy for any of us to hurt a teams chances in the event , but none of us did. Integrity was one of the many skills that Oneida utilized during the duration of this Color War . We learned how to not only be leaders in camp, but in the real world as well. Working on this Color War was a great experience. I learned a lot and I hope that I can work on another one sometime in the near future.
