CSL Mobilizes To "Repair The World"

He could be sitting on the porch while he awaits his parents, but he has chosen to do more with his final hour at CSL this summer – Tal Zahavi is painting a fence for the CSL Legacy Garden.  He, along with 230 other campers and over 100 staff, are spread all throughout camp working on over 40 projects to better our community, our home.
My sophomore year of high school we had a “Work Day” when the whole school was divided up into various service projects around campus and the surrounding community.  Everyone participated.  For some reason, that was the last year of that day.  The seed was definitely planted though.  A decade later, when I became Program Director, I knew that this imperative piece of ‘service’ had to be more effectively integrated into the CSL Program.  And so began Tikkun Olam (Hebrew for Repair The World) Day at Camp Seneca Lake.
In now the third year of this day, the camp completely shuts down.  No water skiing or Arts and Crafts or Ropes – all energy is dedicated to bettering the camp community.  During the course of the day, blogs covering each and every one of the projects will be uploaded into this space.  One of the projects is a documentary encapsulating the whole day with photos, videos, and interviews which we hope to have up on the website in the next couple of days.  The whole camp will be watching a rough cut of this documentary at the end of the day before having a campfire in the newly-refurbished Fire Circle (called “Project Illumination.”  You can view last year’s documentary by clicking here.
We hope you have a great day and continue to have us in your thoughts.
