Oneida Speaks

Last Thursday, Oneida went to Camp Whitman for the third and final day. We headed over right after breakfast, and spent the first part of the morning with the 3rd-5th graders. We had a great time playing kickball, nuke 'em, and making bracelets. Then we had an olympics with the adults with disabilities, running relay races, jumping over hoops and learning to hula hoop. Everyone was sweaty, hungry and excited for lunch. After napping for an hour in the grass by the lake, we put on water shoes and met up with the adults to go down to the waterfront. We divided into groups of four and canoed back home to CSL. Then we took the Camp Whitman adult campers and their counselors on a tour of CSL, which was an interesting experience to view camp from an outsider's perspective. After taking a glimpse at the basketball marathon, the dining hall, and some villages, we canoed back to Camp Whitman. For dinner we had lasagna and multiple helpings of a superb peach cobbler. The night culminated with a fun dance for all campers, staff and Oneidans. We were happy to return home after the busy day. It was rewarding to spend time at Camp Whitman, but it certainly made us appreciate how amazing Camp Seneca Lake is!
