Despite having one of the more rainy July sessions I've seen in my 5 years as a waterfront staff member, I am extremely proud of what the campers accomplished. We observed a great deal of progress in waterskiing and sailing, but most importantly, there was a strong desire to simply be on the water.
Camp purchased a new set of paddle boards which were a huge hit. We had quite a few days where the weather was just right to use them and we even incorporated them into the sailing racing hobby group curriculum. The team moved through a course on paddle boards instead of sailboats due to the lack of wind and demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of right-of-way. The other two sailing hobby groups learned to sail confidently through many types of courses and in various weather conditions. Waterskiing hobby group had more campers learn to slalom than I've ever observed in a single session. Many of the wakeboarders learned to wakeskate which is essentially wakeboarding without bindings. Just about everyone also learned to jump and perform tricks.
We are looking forward to meeting all the August campers and sharing our love for this magical lake.
Until next time,
Sam Chussid
Waterfront Director
