Shabbat Thoughts from Jane

Humans are the only animals to give their lives meaning. Humans aren’t machines. We are more than the food we insert inside ourselves. Here at CSL we can reflect on our thoughts and actions internally, deciding what makes each of us unique. You should constantly be considering yourself as an individual within Camp Seneca Lake. Are you the kind of person who speaks to the same 10 people each day? Do you know the name of every person in your village? Have you tried to have a conversation today with someone much older or younger than yourself?

We can have personal dialogues inside our heads about our behavior, but we are not in isolation. I am me, and I can be awesome, but I am awesome as a member of the Camp Seneca lake community. My actions impact the identity of not only myself, the mushy brain and internal organs within my skin, but also I can look within to determine my value as an individual. As of yet, camp has only allowed humans to be campers and staff here. We have a responsibility to work on preserving camp’s identity as an inclusive environment. I am, and we are CSL, because we both consider our personal behaviors together calibrate our camp-wide attitude on life.

Shabbat Shalom,
Jane Tuszynski
