Hi, I'm Adam Stein and I am a first-year C-5 counselor. I've been coming to camp for 9 years, and I've always wanted to go back to Cayuga. Here I am.
After breakfast, the Cayugan staff brought a video game to life. Pokemon is a game that all the staff avidly played when they were around the ages of the Cayugans. The campers loved the game, extremely enthusiastic about the 4 human-like Pokemon running around in the village. Unfortunately, these Pokemon then escaped and each group had to find their respective Pokemon. After searching for about 15 minutes we then located our Pokemon and made a circle around them to symbolize catching them. The Pokemon went up to A&C to dress them up. Finally the 4 Pokemon went to the hockey courts to battle it out based on the kids commands and Pikachu reigned supreme.
Overall, this was one of the more successful, small-scale programs that I have ever been apart of. The staff was involved and enthusiastic, the campers were loving every minute of it and the hour and a half program went by in a flash. The campers learned teamwork by capturing the Pokemon and expressed their artistic ability by dressing the Pokemon up. No one seemed bored or unengaged and that is always a bonus.
