Good afternoon!
My name is Jojo Kaufman and I am counselor here at CSL. This will be my seventh summer on the lake and this is my fourth year being a staff member. It is an indescribable feeling of what it is like to be back at my home away from home.
Since general staff orientation began yesterday afternoon, I have gotten a glimpse of what this summer will look like: lots of hard work but also a great sense of accomplishment as well as strong bonds with my fellow camp community.
Yesterday set the tone for the summer when all of the staff were faced with the challenge of paddling across the lake. The curve ball was that we were not paddling just canoes or kayaks, rather we were also responsible for paddling sail boats of all sizes and row boats. Beyond the physical struggle of paddling across the lake, we were also pushed outside of our comfort zones when we were placed in boats with other staff members we did not necessarly know. However, just because we had a few obstacles to overcome, doesn't mean we did not have the time of our lives. It was amazing to see every single boat CSL owns out in the middle of the lake at the same time and know we were all in the same position. Between singing at the top of our lungs, getting water bottles and granola bars thrown at us, and jumping overboard for a bathroom break it was easy to see the smile on everyone's face and know this summer is going to be an unforgettable experience.
Not only did this program show what camp is all about but even more so shed a light on my vision of Seneca for 2014. This year the village of Seneca is aiming to promote the relationship between the old and the new in terms of people as well as traditions here at Camp Seneca Lake and I can't wait to have you here to be apart of it.
