The staff was first told that we would be complying with a new camp water rescue regulation, but the tables quickly turned when we were told to find one of the many sailboats, rowboats, or canoes with our corresponding name tag to depart on a journey across the lake. In our assigned boats, many new friendships were fostered across village boundaries, as staff members from all walks of camp were united to a common goal. Slowly but surely, we drifted to Lodi State Park for dinner and some village staff orientation.
Within hours, it felt like the staff members that I had just met were lifetime friends as we joked around, told stories, set goals for the summer, and inevitably rowed our way back across the lake.
Upon arriving back at camp, we had some more time in our villages to again help form the bonds that will be so vital in the success of this summer. The way Mohawk orientation is headed, it is sure to be the summer of a lifetime. Last, but certainly not least, everyone made their way down to the fire circle for the first all staff campfire. With songs and speeches, the magic of camp was as vibrant as ever.
I can speak for everyone in Mohawk when I say that we are as stoked as ever to fill the rest of the fire circle with 260+ more smiling faces in 6 short days.
See you soon,
