Izzi Calkins returns to CSL

Dear CSL Community:

It is with pleasure that I introduce Izzi Calkins as CSL’s 2014 Music Specialist!  Izzi has been a part of the CSL community for a long time and we’re excited to have her return home after two summers away from Camp.  Music has always been a passion for Izzi and during her camper years there was a natural mix of her two loves – CSL and Music.  Now, she can share them both with the CSL family this summer.

Izzi’s first summer at CSL was actually in 2001, as a “camp baby” when her mother worked at Camp for the summer.  She attended CSL all of her eligible campers years before attending a camp specializing in Jewish Song Leading in 2012.  Izzi has also been a song leader for her youth group, NFTY-NEL, the North American Federation of Temple Youth North East Lakes region and even performed in front of the entire URJ (Union for Reform Judiasm) at a recent conference.  Izzi has also been working at her local temple in Rochester as a Sunday school music teacher.

Izzi, who has spent much of her life in Rochester, NY, recently had the opportunity of a lifetime and went abroad with NFTY-EIE High School in Israel in the spring of 2013. She brought her guitar and got a chance to experience song leading in Israel for 4 months.  Not everyone can say they’ve done that!

Is Izzi excited to return to Camp?  Well, here’s what she had to say when I asked.

“I am so incredibly excited to be going back to camp this summer after 2 long years away. Getting to do what I love, lead Jewish music, AND be at my home away from home, is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait for the summer to begin!!”

I hope you’re as excited as I am to have Izzi with us this summer!

All the Best,
Aaron Cantor, Director
