Dear CSL Community:
We continue to add to the Programming staff for 2014, adding
Rachel Philipson and Jacob McKinney.
Each have grown up at CSL, were Tusc campers in 2010, and have worked in
a variety of roles on staff the last couple of summers. Jacob will work in technical and
operations support while Rachel will support a wide-range of areas in
Programming. Each have just
wrapped up their first semesters in college – Jacob at Clarkson University and
Rachel at Boston University.
Many comment on how large the Programming Staff has grown
over the years, which is fully accurate.
My first year as Program Director in 2009, it was just two people
including me. Over the last five
years, CSL has grown in many ways as we try to raise the bar of the camper
experience as well as our ability to paint a picture of that experience for
parents and alumni. Technical
support is now required in nearly all programs and the amount of people and
resources required to put on top notch events has increased dramatically. Additionally, we seek to have a
consistent documenting presence on our blog, twitter, instagram, and facebook
for every single thing we do at camp.
We have gotten a lot of questions and concerns that the
dramatic escalation in planning, commitment, and documenting of camp somehow
distort the camper experience. As
someone who has been at camp for 22 years, I can tell you that what a day looks
like at CSL has changed very little.
Campers have no access to any technical devices ever except for MP3
players that must remain in the villages.
We believe strongly in how the profile and opportunities of CSL are
growing and we believe they are doing so at a more rapid, substantial rate than
our competition. As such, we are
thrilled to be able to add people of Jacob and Rachel’s capacity to Programming
for 2014 as we look to continue that positive trajectory.
That all said, our department is not yet finished with three
positions left to hire including more pieces of our media and communications
team. Please stay tuned to the
blog in the coming weeks and have a wonderful break this coming week, likely
frequenting movie theatres and Chinese restaurants!
All The Best,
Ari Baum, Assistant Director &
