After a five year hiatus, Sail Racing Hobby Group was reborn during the July session. Six campers learned the rules and strategies that make up the intricate sport of Sail Racing. By the end of the session, each camper was able to Skipper a boat in a competitive upwind race.

Teaching was an important part of every lesson. The campers had the opportunity to teach their peers different aspects of Sailing. The lessons included Sunfish rigging, racing technique, communication, a figure-eight course, backwards Sailing, Right of Way, and sportsmanship. With each lesson, the campers further understood sailing fundamentals and advanced beyond what we ever expected. This experience provided important training for these campers who are certainly capable of becoming Waterfront Staff in the future.
For Culmination Day, we drove down to Watkins Glen and boarded a 68 foot Schooner, "True Love." This particular boat was used in the film High Society with Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. As we sailed around, Captain Larry expanded our sailing worldview. Having decades of experience throughout his life sailing across the Pacific, the Atlantic, and a slue of Seas, he taught us everything from the lifestyle basics to racing strategies. Throughout the ride, he continually emphasized that "Motorists are always going places, but Sailors are already there."
