The countdown is finally over. The staff anxiously awaited the arrival of their campers from the porch, dressed in costume and ready to kick off the summer. Although the first day agenda consists of formalities like swim tests and activity area orientations, the day is always remembered as one full of hugs, laughter and cheering. And this year is no exception. Campers sprinted from the bus steps to their counselors' arms and the dining hall exploded with chatter at lunch.
To formally begin the summer, we end the day with Opening Ceremonies. Each village and specialty area prepare a unique skit or dance to perform for the whole camp. The night culminates with a bonfire and camp songs before the campers return to their respective villages for the night.
By the time the campers are asleep, we hope that each and every one is comfortable, excited and ready for the summer of a lifetime.
