The Seneca Spiel

Dear Seneca Family and Friends,

Welcome back to those families who are returning for the August session! For those of you who are joining us for the first time this summer, my name is Sarah Kaufman and I am the S3 bunk counselor, as well as Seneca AUH. This is my tenth summer at CSL and I could not be happier to be here.

Our spirited group of 69 ladies spent an exciting day at various specialty areas around camp. However, all six bunks enjoyed time together at the waterfront this morning, which is a rare occasion.

As I'm sure many of you have read in previous blogs, tonight's All Camp Program was very different from those we have had in the past. Instead of informing the counselors of the prank the campers would play on them, the AUHs insisted that the campers would go on a counselor hunt around camp. It was exhilarating to watch the excitement on the campers' faces as they traveled from bunk to bunk, searching for their assigned counselor's flip flop. When the program culminated at the flag pole, the staff was stunned as they were bombarded with water balloons and the realization that they were tricked - all the counselors' flip flops were on the roof of the dining hall! It was certainly a memorable sight!

As we wrapped up the first full day in Seneca, the oldest Senecans split into four groups and taught the Seneca cheers to the middle and youngest cabins. Not only did we see the oldest girls begin to emerge as leaders of the village, but they are forming friendships with the younger girls that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Until next time,
Sarah Kaufman
