I always love to observe how campers in the younger villages adjust to camp in the beginning of each session. There's no question that August campers are completely and intangibly different from July campers, so as a first year staff member I wasn't sure what to expect.
I've found these August Onondagans to be a wonderful group of loving, open and receptive kids who are happy to soak up every experience we hand to them. Though often the girls in each bunk are vastly different from one another, they bond cohesively here in a way I don't think they would outside of camp.
In O-2, my girls are finding their individual niches in activities such as archery and newcomb league. Collectively, they look forward to programs like Color War and still talk about past programs such as the "prank the counselors" All Camp Program.
As this eclectic group of kids gets more and more settled here, they seem to enjoy each moment more and more. I find joy in their joy, and look forward to taking them through the rest of the summer!
