Mohawk's First Campout

Dear Mohawk Families,

Hi, my name is Andy Powers and this is my second year as a staff member at camp seneca lake. I am one of three kids in my family to attend camp. Most recently, my sister kate was assistant programming head last summer. This is my 10th summer here at camp.

Youngest and middle Mohawk went on their campout tuesday night. 26 campers and 13 staff members (including two hiking personnel) piled into the bus at noon tuesday, to get to Treman Park in Ithaca around 1 PM. Once we arrived at the park the campers and staff unpacked and set up 6 tents. In OLS (outdoor living skills), each bunk is learning prior to their campouts how to set up tents in order to speed up the process.

After every tent was set up, and the campers had been assigned to tents, all 39 people marched their way to the natural swimming pool that is part of treman park. This was one of the major highlights of the trip. The chilling water numbed most of us. Nonetheless, everyone had a grand time. After the swim, we walked back to cook burgers, hot dogs and corn. And after a few more hours of hanging around the camp, playing cards, throwing baseballs and several other activities, we made a campfire and all had smores.

It was a wonderful trip. Everyone is looking forward to sleeping on camp beds tonight, after a night on the ground. The first ever evening program hobby session is tonight. Enjoy the sun!
