Greetings to our Camp Families…As Director I am stuck in the office a lot, but I also manage to be at many activities. My model rocketry hobby group has met twice and has already launched rockets built by the 7 campers in the group. They gasped at the speed and height their rockets attained. Some of the rockets they made sped out of site at over 1500 feet in altitude. This evening we’re starting to construct each camper’s second rocket, a bit more advanced than their first. All the kids are so enthusiastic it is delightful to work with them.
I also spent an evening learning a 25 step dance with the campers. Events like these give me a chance to get to know the kids better…they all seem to know me, at least by name, but I have a ways to go in that dept. I also get around to the younger bunks to play the kids a few songs on my ukulele. (sometimes accompanied by my Golden Doodle Rosie, who the kids adore!)
We’re preparing for many out of camp trips in the coming days. The LITs will be canoeing for 4 days in the Adirondacks. (Fulton Chain and Racquette Lake). Our Senior Campers will be pedaling nearly 100 miles over a three day period in the Finger Lakes area. I drove their trip yesterday with their trip leader, picked out excellent campsites and some great fun along the way, such as a nice beach, the Curtiss Flight Museum in Bath, NY, and the Corning Glass Museum. Mohawk just returned from an overnight to Treman State Park in Ithaca, and Seneca is bound later this week for the Watkins Glen area.
The weather, so wet and chilly this past spring, has cooperated and given us a beautiful hot summer week. Running a camp with great weather is as good as it gets! We are all so happy, busy, full of ruach, singing, cheering…clearly, this will be another typical wonderful CSL session.
