Dear Mohawk families,
All 266 campers triumphantly arrived at 200 Camp road around 11:30 early this morning. The dining hall was shaking as everyone marched in. With spirits high, the Mohican campers certainly stuck out as leaders of the camp. Although we have 7 campers returning from the july session, the majority of the village will be new. Mohawk is excited for this. All of us will miss our fellow campers who stayed for solely the july session, but, we are looking forward to the many new faces and talents. For example, matt hoffman will provide us with some guitar playing, which our village lacked in august. Jake Leve nearly always has a smile on his face, which spreads like rapid fire amongst his peers.
The first day was fairly standard. After lunch, Mohawk hurried to the village to change and head to the pool for the infamous swim test. After going to the office for bunk pictures, the nurses for lice check, and the waterfront for orientation, Mohawk reconvened in the village for a meeting, and some down time.
The day was highlighted by Mohawk American League tryouts after dinner where the entire village displayed its talent. Matt Lipschitz surprised us all with his blazing fast speed around the diamond. Eli Schwartz, the reigning offensive player of the year, joined the ranks of the few men to ever hit a home run during tryouts. MAL is in for a special year.
All in all, Mohawk is on fire right now. Everyone is happy to be here and it shows. There is a sense of energy and dedication that pervades the village. It doesn't matter what we will be doing this session, or where we do it. Without question, we will get after it. The best part is, it is only day number one...
Go hawk,
