Hey families, friends, and avid blog readers,
My name is Neal Richardson and I am a Mohawk staff member working in M-1. Throughout the summer, you will read posts from a variety of perspectives on this blog. Myself, along with the other staff members, are here to not only make the summer extremely special for your boys, but also to keep you appraised of the happenings in Mohawk.
I'd like to start off Mohawk's portion of the CSL blog by telling you about the M-7 Bunk. Yesterday was an incredible start to camp but I am very confident that no other cabin at CSL had a better day than M-7. The Mohawk staff can already tell that these boys understand what it means to lead Mohawk. They had the insight to call a camper meeting after our village meeting to discuss respect and ways they could make Mohawk great this summer. After that meeting, the oldest campers took the initiative to teach the M-1 bunk the Mohawk cheers that we proudly recite each day after lunch.
Last night, the campers of M-7 helped facilitate the ritualistic tradition of the Mohawk fire. They rounded up the rest of the village and led them on a silent march to the fire circle where we staff members were waiting, along with Ari Baum, to share our reflections on what Mohawk means to us. The oldest campers were then given the opportunity to address the rest of Mohawk and all did so with great sincerity and a true passion that immediately gave us knowledge that this year would be one of the best for Mohawk in a long time.
All of Mohawk brought great energy and emotion into the first day and night of camp, and we staff are very proud of the things they accomplished in one day, especially those oldest campers. If they keep this level of passion and excitement, which I am quite confidant they will, this summer is sure to be amazing for all of Mohawk.
Enjoy the day. You know we will here at CSl!
