It's been an exciting first week in Tusc. The campers have settled in and are already having the time of their lives! They have begun the three essential components of the Tusc program; the triathlon program, the Judaic program, and the film program. I am looking forward to seeing how the development of the group progresses for this session specifically, and for the summer as a whole.
Yesterday the kids began their preparation for the three day bike extravanganza, AKA the Tusc bike trip. Additionally the Tusc Judaic program had a phenomenal start that began with a discussion about Jewish identity. The campers discussed whether or not they identified as a Jewish American or an American Jew.
The evening program, Big Brother/Little Brother- Big Sister/Little Sister, was one of the most successful programs I have ever been apart of. The program is designed to establish relationships between our older campers, who are our leaders in camp, and our younger campers, who are our future of camp. The campers of Onondaga and Cayuga are given older siblings to foster this idea of a "camp family." The Tusc campers played the role of elder siblings with maturity and poise. The excitement was omnipresent among the villages of Cayuga, Onondaga, and Tuscarora.
The Tusc campers displayed their leadership potential and I believe there will be a lot more to come in the future.
