Familiar Face Takes Leadership in Judaica

Beginning in Summer 2014, Judaica took a more central position in the CSL Program, officially becoming a part of Programming Department. This allowed for greater support, and in turn, success integrating Judaic Education throughout the CSL Program from regular Judaica periods to the Shabbat experience. We are therefore very excited to announce that Shayna DeMari will continue this capacity in Summer 2015 taking on the roles of Judaic Educator and Associate Program Director.

Originally from Syracuse, New York, Shayna grew up at CSL, becoming a Senior Camper in 2007 and working on staff for several summers. After taking 2012 and 2013 off, Shayna returned to CSL in 2014 as a Tusc counselor following her graduation from the University of Buffalo. Shayna has a rich Jewish history that has very definitively led her to this exciting opportunity at camp. She attended the Syracuse Hebrew Day School for seven years and served as the Vice President of Religious Education of her USY Chapter. Shayna has lived in Israel and recently traveled there for a two-week immersion course called Akiva in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Like her predecessor (David Jevotovsky), Shayna will serve as a full time member of the Programming Department, playing a role in all major programs throughout the summer. In Judaica, Shayna will receive support from David who will continue to play a major leadership role in the Shabbat experience.

We are excited at the prospects of Shayna’s leadership in this cornerstone aspect of the CSL experience!

See You Soon,

Ari Baum, Associate Director
