The August session in Tusc has been bittersweet so far - although I'm having a lot more fun in August than I did earlier in the Tusc session, I know that it will come to an end soon. The summer is a bit of a paradox - as camp goes on and you get to know everyone better, you start to enjoy it more and more, then it's over. This is especially true in Tusc, as everyone is there for two months. No matter how good camp is, you're bound to have a better time once you've planned a banquet, won Fight Song, and helped run an Ironman with them. A lot of July was spent working in our free time - banquet prep and fight song dominated our lives, and that helped us grow closer. In August we have a lot more free time in the village, and that's where I feel the best memories of camp come from. I find myself staying up later and later just to listen to music or play euchre with all the boys.
That being said, we also have a lot to look forward to. Color War, the triathalon and August Campstock are all central parts of the Tusc program. Their timing isn't coincidental; the bonding I discussed earlier prepared us to lead the camp in all of these things.
I could spend my time dwelling on what has happened and what is to come of Tuscarora 14, but I can do that on August 21st. For now, I should focus on the here and now of Tusc, enjoying every moment of it while I can.
