Pine Tree Post

The first full week of session 2 is coming to a close, and what a busy week it's been in Cayuga. We've had periods, hobbies, and just last night, Shabbat. For Cayuga, the most intersting part of the Shabbat experience has to be Shabbat walk, when campers get the opportunity to spend time with whomever they choose and walk around camp for a half hour before services.

Oren of C-3 talks about his Shabbat walk "dates", saying that he prefers to walk with his friends because "Onondagans cause too much drama." Well said, Oren.

Yesterday we had a full camp sleep in until 9:00, followed by breakfast in the village. From breakfast we headed down to the new morning service site, the Goldem View, for morning services and songs. For me, one of the best parts of camp has always been during services, when the whole camp sings together, uniting the campers past villages and bunks as an entire camp community. Even the Cayugans got into it this morning, singing along to "circle game" and dancing along with their friends.

Following services was lunch, rest hour, and Shabbat choice, which then lead into village cookouts for dinner. We made hotdogs and hamburgers (kosher of course) on and open firepit for the whole village while the kids played roofball and football, or stayed in the cabins and played euchre. The evening concluded with a brief havdallah service in the c-rec to avoid the inclement weather.

There are only two and a half weeks left of camp. That may sound like a lot to the anxious parents at home, but here at camp, that's nothing at all. I promise these campers will not believe how fast the weeks fly by, especially with such incredible programs still on the schedule. It's been a fantastic start to the session, and I can't wait to see what the next days bring to the village of Cayuga and to the entire CSL community.
