Hawk Talk: Shabbat Sha-Borus

Welcome to the first editon of Shabbat Sha-Borus where I, Ben Borus reflect on the past week at camp. This week the Mohicans got down and dirty with the eldest 5 mile Canoe trip. The trip went up in flames...literally as a roaring fire kept us warm as we toasts s'mores.

As the sun sets and Shabbat begins the Mohicans will gaze up at the Lake where they canoed and swam in. CSL August 2014 has started off strong and as the Camp joins in song we will definitely display the ruach that has been shown this last week. As for my expirence, The soar throats, the bug bites, the scrapes and abrasions mean nothing to me as long as I'm at camp. Ever since my first year in 2011 I could see the joy in every campers eyes as they run of the bus into there friends arms which they have have waited for 11 months to do. As I write This blog I sit with my brothers playing euchre, eating food, "turning up" to the music blasted throughout the speakers. That is what I have waited for 11 months to do play euchre with some of my best friends listing to music at 200 Camp Road in the village of a mohawk.

The first night of camp the counselors gathered us around the fire and told us that Tuscarora isn't necessarily where they made there best friends or made memories. I began to ponder about my memories in Mohawk and I can still remember The first night of youngest Mohawk where the red flag waved in the air surrounded by torches as we walked to the fire circle. now as a eldest Mohican I wasn't the one looking up to the people with the torches, I was the one with the flag leading are village around camp. This Week was just the beginning to the memories I will make through the session, and after the two weeks and 3 days I will have finished my years and Mohawk and will be ready to gather around the fire As a Mohawk staff member sharing my memories as a Mohican.
