Tuesday Top Ten

After a long day of activities, General Swim, which is a 40 minute block from 4:50 to 5:30, is a great time to relax with friends or take in some serious pool or athletics activities. A recent poll of Camp Seneca Lake campers and staff revealed the top ten General Swim activities:

10. Talking with your friends

On days where campers are running from place to place without much of a break, General Swim is a time where campers can just relax and talk with their friends. Days are recapped and stories from the day are often told during  these forty-five minutes.

9. Swimming

What is General Swim without swimming? On a hot day (like the first couple days of this session!) the pool is a hopping place and the water does wonders to cool yourself down. The pool is also a place where various games, such as Marco Polo, are played.

8. Hockey

An absolute favorite of the Cayugan crowd, the hockey court is always abuzz with action. Full court games are played, but also just general practice to get them ready for their next CHL game is usually what takes place. Lots of shots are taken on net as the Cayugans look to improve their skills.

7. Tennis

Located right next to the hockey court, the tennis courts have a lot of different activities that can take place on them. Sometimes it is two campers playing an intense match, or sometimes it is a large group of campers working together to keep the ball in the court. Sometimes even, an impromptu game of home run derby, where tennis balls are launched over the fence goes down.

6. Basketball

With the revamped basketball court in place, this area of General Swim saw a growing following over the course of last summer. Pickup games are played, of course, but also less structured games are played, such as horse and knockout. Campers also like to just shoot around, using General Swim as a chance to get better.

5. Hanging out at the pool

What if going into the pool isn’t the thing that you want to do? Luckily, the pool has a ton of chairs to lounge around in, soak in the atmosphere of the pool and even sometimes get splashed!

4. Batting Practice

One of the favorite activities of all Mohicans, many times batting practice takes place during General Swim, with a field full of people looking to shag fly balls, General Swim is a great time for players to take their cuts at the ball and try to hit that elusive home run.

3. Snack

Located at the Ping Pong Pavilion, snack gives the campers a chance to break the long time period between lunch and dinner with a little nourishment. Often a mad dash at the beginning of the time, sometimes the best option is to go later in the General Swim period when less people are around and you can get an extra if you want!

2. Nukem

The official sport of Onondaga, Nukem is the volleyball-style catch and throw game that takes over the volleyball court every single day during General Swim. The game is not just for Onodagans though, as all of camp loves to take part in this fun game.

1. Tetherball

The number one activity of the General Swim time period is tetherball. With lines that often reach the road, the tetherball court is the most happening place as campers and staff alike square off in the classic camp game.
