As the last full day came to a close, I could honestly say this has been an amazing trip. The fifth day started off with rain and that rain did not go away. We woke up around 9:30 and were told to put on socks and sneakers, shorts and a rain jacket, and to bring our ironman volunteer shirts. We loaded on the bus and wondered what we were going to be doing, just like everyday before it. After being on the bus for about an hour we arrived in Lake Placid. We walked to a pavilion and were served breakfast. With our tummies full and our heads a little higher we were told what we were going to be doing.
There were two groups: cupcake decorating and shopping around the town. My group was shopping first, there were five of us and Tali was our counselor. When we finally got to the cupcake place it smelled delicious. We went to the back of the bakery and were given one vanilla and one chocolate cupcake to decorate. The experience was so much fun and the result was delicious. We then caught a Lake Placid trolley which took us back to the shopping area where we shopped a little bit more. We then walked over to the Olympic museum which was so cool. We saw all the torches and ice skating outfits and the incredible miracle on ice rink! I couldn't believe I was there. Later we went to another ice rink and skated with the other ironman volunteers and went curling. I haven't skated in forever and it felt so nice to be back on the ice again. We went into a banquet room for a great dinner with all of the other volunteers as we were all thanked for our hard work. Izzie and Josh got on stage infront of everyone and competed in a dance-off and both one awesome prizes. After all of the volunteer ceremonies we headed over to ANOTHER ice rink and were told we were playing Broomball!! Luckily I play field hockey so I was able to help my team out a lot. After losing our last game to the Staff team our heads were still high knowing that we played really well and had so much fun doing it.
Today we go back to camp and I'm so excited to see new and old faces and to show camp that Tuscarora 2014 is back and better and louder than ever. What an amazing Tusc trip, I'm sad to see it end so soon but happy to have had such an amazing time.
