Hi Parents and Friends or simply CSL,
Almost 48 hours ago, campers and counselors stood huddled around a small circle of dirt beside the tennis courts - watching staff members dressed in various colors search for a treasure to which they all claimed stake. As the fifteen staff members dug for the treasure, the Cayugans at general swim slowly migrated over to the commotion, putting the pieces together that mass program was about to hit us! Over the next day and a half, the Cayugans split into five families and fought hard in their historical events to bring the treasure back to their respective families. What a day and a half it was.
We saw the Cayugans compete in the Gold Rush event where they, along with the rest of the camp, frantically searched for gold spray painted rocks all over the campgrounds. We saw the Cayugans compete in a World War I inspired trench warfare event that took dodge-ball to an entirely new level. We saw the Cayugans compete in the Space Race event where they completed a puzzle in order to set off the next chain of events that eventually included placing a team flag on the ski dock at the waterfront. We saw the Cayugans compete in various historical events throughout the day yesterday, from story writing to hockey at the Cayuga Hockey League rink. And finally, the boys ran around camp in the Seal Team Six event, searching for clues that would help the families decode a phrase and find the traitor hidden in camp. Throughout the entire mass program, the Cayugans fought hard and were essential components of the five families.
In the end, however, only one family could make it out on top and claim the family jewel. After an intense jury deliberation and shocking announcement that the lock to the treasure had finally been cracked, the Zennon family featuring Zach and Brielle came out on top. Their team motto of “peace not war” had carried them to the zenith of mass program and a victory for the ages. Overall, the program was a massive success and the Cayugans had tons of fun competing for their families and the sought after treasure. Today, however, Camp returned back to normal, and the Cayugans were reunited at last. Though they have less than two weeks left here at CSL for the July session, I know that they will make the most of their time remaining.
For now,
Alec Jacobson
Cayuga Unit Head
