Hello CSL Families and Friends,
Wow, the July session has come and gone. That was way too fast. I am sitting here at home trying to rest and get prepared for the second half of the summer. It still has not hit me that July has ended. All though I am excited for August and looking forward to the 60 Mohicans coming, I am going to really miss July.
My first session as Mohawk Unit Head was nothing short of spectacular. In all honesty, I was nervous making the transition from Cayuga to Mohawk. Being Cayuga Unit Head was one of the best experiences of my life and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I was not sure what to expect coming to Mohawk. Even though I was extremely excited, I was very nervous. What made the transition easier for me was that the staff supported me in ways I couldn’t be more thankful for. They proved to be extremely valuable and crucial. They worked very hard and took little time off in order to provide for the 45 Mohicans. They provided the campers with opportunities that could never have been provided by any other group of people. The youngest and middle Mohicans were a big asset for me as well. I was able to spend time with them as their Unit Head the past two summers in Cayuga. My comfort level with them allowed me to understand their wants and needs, while being able to bond with them on a deeper level. Eldest Mohawk quickly welcomed and accepted me. They allowed me to support and guide them all session long. Each Eldest Mohican quickly became a little brother to me and I am sad to see them leave Mohawk, but excited for them to continue their camp career as a Senior Camper.
Each of the Mohicans in July were phenomenal. They came. They saw. They conquered. Eldest Mohawk did what they needed to do. They truly embodied what Mohawk is about. Each of them helped change the legacy of Mohawk forever, and in a positive way. I have never seen a group of Campers lead so much and do so in such a fun and cohesive way. Middle Mohawk helped keep the vibe alive and followed in the footsteps of Eldest Mohawk. Leaders can only lead if there are people to follow, and Middle Mohawk learned and prepared themselves very well for their future Eldest Mohawk summer. Youngest Mohawk learned what it means to be a Mohican. They learned how to integrate themselves into the brotherhood of the ‘Hawk. Looking up to their “big brothers” in Middle and Eldest was an encouraging sign and we know the future looks bright.
Throughout the session we constantly said “The moment is now. Legacy is forever.” We wanted to take advantage of every moment that we had together; fun or boring, short or long, easy or challenging. Every moment adds up to make a legacy. We wanted to make sure our legacy would be remembered for greatness and put Mohawk in a good position for future sessions and summers.
Thank you Mohawk for leaving your legacy behind and raising the bar. The challenge is now on for the August campers to match and surpass what we did in July. Can Mohawk do it? Yes, because we “believe in the ‘Hawk.”
Sincerely,
Max Krieger
