The summer has finally shown up for us just when we needed it the most and I could not be more thrilled to introduce myself to you as your Tusc 2014 media representative! I grew up at CSL, coming back every summer from O-1 until 2007 when I was myself a Tuscaroran. As a camper I went through all of the ropes, (literally, both high and low) I met new people, took on new skills, basked in the sunshine and jumped in the lake. Camp was my home and I never wanted to leave.
My summer in Tusc was the greatest summer of my life. Time went by, programs changed, and I got older. Before I even realized it had been six years since I had been back to the place I called home. It took a couple of shoves and then I was back in 2013 as the Athletics Head Specialist and I couldn't have had a better summer. Except for one thing, I didn't have campers. I knew I needed to get back to the village that helped me become the person that I am now. I needed to get back to Tusc.
In my eyes the village of Tuscarora is the heart of CSL. I had the privilege of going through what these campers are about to go through this summer. It was in that village, in those tents, in the T-Rec, and along those trails where I learned the importance and power that being a member of Tuscarora holds. I learned to listen and lead, to contribute and to take. I grasped the concept of being part of something bigger than just myself.
As we all know, camp is a really extraordinary place. The thing about CSL that makes it so special is that it highlights your greatest traits for you even when you aren’t confident with them being shown (or that they even exist).
I want to watch that happen for my campers, I want them to discover things that they can do that they never would have thought they could. I want them to feel as special as I have felt by being a part of camp. And I want you all to be able to see it from the Tuscaroran point of view, and now you can. I will be updating you on our adventures atleast twice a day, and don't worry plenty of pictures will be included (my mom was a camp mom once too!)
I am so excited for the campers of Tusc 2014 to get here and have the best summer of their lives. I am grateful to return to the village and I can't wait to enjoy the summer with you all!
