After spending a cumulative 8 years in Seneca, I have never before seen the village in such high spirits. From the moment the girls stepped off the bus, to the very last "goodnight" at the inaugural Seneca fire circle, smiles were all around.
The first day of camp is somewhat chaotic, as many of the important, yet tedious tasks must get taken care of (i.e., swim test, unpacking, rules, etc.), but the Senecans approached each and every activity with great enthusiasm and engagement. We culminated the hot, sunny day with our traditional "big sister, middle sister, little sister" program, where all of the girls were strategically matched up into families with whom they will share the rest of the summer in a variety of activities and programs. It is one of our most successful programs in Seneca, and you can see the long lasting effect it has on the girls, and the bonds they share with each other. We then joined the rest of the camp for opening ceremonies that featured some very creative videos and skits (not to mention the introduction of the Fight Song trophy!!). Finally we concluded the night with a sentimental bonfire around our very own fire circle, where we shared some meaningful quotes about sisterhood and listened to some speakers talk about what Seneca means to them.
I am so grateful for the amount of excitement that arrived in Seneca yesterday and I can't wait to see what today brings!!!
Stay tuned for updates about our first full day at CSL 2014!
