The village of Cayuga has become a very special place to me. This is my third summer returning to village of pine and I couldn't be more excited. I've been looking forward to this summer since the last one ended, as so many of you have, but I still get that nervous feeling right before it begins. I've been at CSL for 5 full summers already, so you think I wouldn't get nurvous before coming back here, right? Wrong. Going to sleep Wednesday night, the night before AUH orientation, was next to impossible. I had far too many thoughts running through my head to keep them quiet. Bunk nights, CHL, who's coming back to camp, my role in the village, color war, and many other things that I know have to be organized before all of the campers arrive. It's a good kind of nervousness though, the kind you get before leaving on vacation or the first day of school.
Driving to camp, my stomach would jump more and more as I passed each familiar landmark on my way here. Turning onto camp road for the first time this summer didn't seem real, and when I got to camp, I jumped out of the car to be greeted by Alec, the new Cayuga UH. It is an experience I'm excited for our Cayugan campers to have this summer.
We just wrapped up AUH training and my nerves have begun to settle as I realize that there isn't much to be nervous about. I've been saying that this summer is going to be big, and so far I am right. Many of the new staff are here already and we couldn't have hired a better group of people. The bonds I already have with staff are growing stronger at a rapid pace and new friendships are being forged. It's overwhelming, but I love wouldn't have it any other way.
The summer is already phenomenal, and I've only been here for a day. Alec and I are so incredibly excited for the rest of the staff to come Sunday, followed by the the campers in about a week. Get Ready for a wild ride pine tree people.
See you soon,
Logan Amstey, Cayuga AUH
