Programming: Painting a Picture

Another beuatiful day on Seneca Lake. The sun shined bright from sun up to sun down, warming the cool morning quickly. Today was the first true four period day, no hobbies, services or rain to get in the way.

This session Programming is running its own specialty area, called Programming Periods, as you might expect. We had a variety of ages and activities running throughout the day and I was so glad to be a part of them. Programming periods are different than most other periods because of their flexibility and direct tie to the history of camp. Today for example, Color War and Plaque history were our foci. But rather than just sit and talk, we ran around with O-4, training for the upcoming event and teaching them about skills they might want to use during the program. What could this possibly entail? Well, for O-4, it meant overcoming challenges we posed, figureing out patterns and watching the orginial Color War Documentary. Though not necessary, these activities were a fun, exciting way for the campers to better understand what Color War even means.

In plaque history with C-5, we had an exciting lesson with Ari Baum about why plaques are so important. Each camper got to choose their favorite plaque and explain why its their favorite, listen to great stories and talk about whay experiences they might want a plaque to depict. They had a great time analyzing past years' plaques and thinking about their future at Camp Seneca Lake.
