It's hard to believe that just 7 and a half weeks ago, my staff and I were preparing for our first group of campers to arrive. Now, the dreaded day has come where we have to say goodbye to our final session campers, as well as to each other. We have grown incredibly close as a staff, and our cohesion has definitely transcended onto our campers. This August session has been wonderful; specifically the ways in which every girl, no matter age or personality type, has been able to reach out to and positively affect the lives of their 47 sisters.
These girls this session have been so optimistic and energetic with every task and activity we throw their way. Onondaga day was a highlight for many of us, where we went bowling, go karting, out for ice cream, made our own pizza at Mark's Pizza, and went to a splash park. The weather was chilly but the girls dove right into playing in the splash park, which is very representative of how the whole session was - girls making the best of every situation.
Oldest Onondaga led youngest and middle in cheers and village activities, and took a great deal of time each day to interact and play with their younger sisters. I couldn't be more proud of what these girls have accomplished, the multiple ways in which they have matured, and how so many have become confident leaders. Camp is an amazing place for children to spend their summers; it teaches you so many life lessons you'll never learn in a classroom.
The memories and lessons created and learned this summer will stick with my staff and I forever. We couldn't have asked for a better summer, and I'm confident my girls can say the same!
