Stories With Seneca

Wow. I can't believe we're already ending the July session. It feels like just yesterday the girls were running off the buses eager to meet counselors and bunk mates, ready to dive into what was expected to be the greatest summer yet. Now, I sit here among a village of not girls, but young women.

Each one of these Senecans has developed so much over the session, and each one of them has contributed so much to the village. I can honestly say I have never seen such a unique yet tightly knit group of young ladies before -- everyone has played their part, and not one Senecan sits in the backseat when it comes to this village; rather, everyone has had their chance in the driver's seat.

I'm so proud to call these campers my girls, and I am incredibly lucky to have gotten to know each one of them throughout the past 4 weeks.

We had a fantastic last day at camp. This morning, we had services in the new Tikkun Olam location which was AWESOME. It's shady AND has a perfect view of the lake -- what more can we ask for on a Saturday in the summer!? We then shared a delicious Shabbas lunch and headed back to villages to pack, clean, and make our bunk plaques.

Finally, it was banquet time. Tusc put on an incredible Narnia banquet, complete with fake snow and intricate costumes. We then headed to the Final Campfire to be with each other around a fire one last time before everyone leaves tomorrow. Unfortunately, it was raining so we had to relocate to the O-Rec, but the service was just as beautiful as ever. I am proud to say that Kasey Rubin, an S-5 camper, spoke on behalf of Seneca in front of the whole camp.

On behalf of the entire Seneca staff, we want to let you know just how amazing your girls are and we want to thank you for giving them to us for 4 weeks this summer. We are all so proud of them, and are so sad to see them leave. It has truly been an incredible session, and I am already counting down the days until next July.

Best wishes for the upcoming year,

Jilli Underberg, S-5 counselor
