As we come to the close of our July session, it's clear that we have all grown closer. Bunks have bonded with drama games, camp-outs, and plenty of rest hours. Villages have bonded with fight song prep and league periods. Throughout the session, another set of groups has become quite tight-knit. These groups are comprised of a wide range of campers and counselors united by a common interest. Hobbies provide camp with the opportunity to form friendships across ages and genders. Today CSL programming hobby met for the last time, discussing the successful evening program we planned and prepping the staff of tomorrow with an in-depth analyzation of past Color Wars. I am always impressed with the stories my campers tell me about their experiences at hobbies. During the same period of time, my girls are balancing on one ski on top of the lake, singing harmony parts, mastering the craft of ceramics and scurrying up climbing walls. I am proud of each camper for pursuing her interests this summer in a focused area. Judging from tonight's culmination, we have all perfected a particular skill in a modern display of society based on specialization. For a random plot of land squeezed between some cornfields and a lake, we sure accomplish a lot at Camp Seneca Lake. I am going to miss my campers dearly and we are certainly savoring these last few days.
