Yesterday marked the opening day of the Mohawk National League. For may years Mohicans have gathered to play softball on camp's Mohawk and Onondaga fields. This year, if I do say so myself, we have an extraordinarily large amount of talent in the village. I am proud to say that this year's Mohawk has surprised the Mohawk staff with the improvements they have made over the course of the off season (school year). The campers came back with harder and farther hits, stronger and more accurate throws, and a greater feel for the game.
Traditionally, the Mohawk National League has had the same couple of teams each year. Yesterday, the Office Nationals (head coach: Aaron Schaible) played the Kitchen Mets (head coach: Jeremy Garson) on the M-Field. It was quite the even match up, and the game ended in a tie. On the O-field, the Pool Pirates (head coach: David Jevotovsky) were pitted against the Ropes Course Red Sox (head coach: Jonah Pessin). The Pirates ended up taking an early lead and started the season off with a win. The Waterfront Indians (head coach: Mike Lape) played no game yesterday and practiced in the general swim area. All of the campers seem to be extremely excited about the season to come. Who will win this year's trophy? Rumor has it that the Pirates are predicted to win the whole thing. Then again, maybe I am just biased because that is my team.
