From Joy, CSL in Israel

Hello from Nahariyah!

Shavua Tov!  Our group enjoyed a restful Shabbat here in Nahayriah. Friday evening we walked to the Mediterranean beach for some evening fun.  CSL services, camp songs, great discussions - one on Pirkei Avot virtues and one on Jewish views of war and martyrdom to coincide with our recent trip to Masada - followed by rest, pool time, and evening out in downtown Nahariyah rounded out a great Shabbat.

Today was a great day.  We started off at Atlit, a British detainment camp used between WWII and the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, and learned about the difficult transition from survivor to Israeli citizen.  We then went to the Bahai Gardens in Haifa and learned about this small but vibrant religious community who also considers Israel its home.  After lunch and shopping at the Haifa mall we journeyed to a nearby Kibbutz where we went horseback and ATV riding through the hills.  We finished our day learning about the Druze community, another small but important religious community located in northern Israel and surrounding nations, and ate a delicious traditional Druze dinner. Tomorrow is Acco and Rosh Hanikrah - so beautiful - followed by a day back on the Kinneret where we explore early poets and pioneers of turn of the 20th century Zionism.

If you're interested in seeing a selection of amazing photos of our journey, find me on Facebook (joygetnick), "friend" me, and look for CSL in Israel albums under photos.

Love from Israel!
