I apologize in advanced for the chaotic nature of this post, but the purest form of excitement and happiness have overcome my mind in anticipation of the campers arrival in less than 12 hrs!!!! After a very moving and motivating final staff event, the feeling in the dining hall was nothing short of electric. The programming staff including the brand new CSL videographer put together an extraordinary session which reminded us counselors exactly what sort of impact we may have on our campers.... And the impact counselors have had on their campers throughout the history of CSL. It was a poignant presentation which helped me conclude that it is not just us, the staff, it is not just the campers, it is not just the land and spirit of Seneca Lake, but rather the combination of it all that has made and will continue to make Camp Seneca Lake the most special and formative place in so many people's lives. CSL is new(ish) to me, but within no time the unverbalizable (?) sentiments I have toward camp is something I now share with the family members who were here 30 years before me. They have an experience of CSL in an entirely different era, with a different staff and program, but our feelings toward this remarkable place and time in our separate lives are the exact same.
The female staff across camp just had our final 'girl power' bonding session before the campers FINALLY arrive, and I feel more psyched than ever to greet them with open arms... And while doing flips and dancing. I look forward to getting to know each of them, and learning from them, and watching them grow stronger and more self sufficient and am touched that YOU, the parents, are allowing us to be a part of this growth.
With that, I leave to meet with a select few to finalize the details of the Seneca 2013 fight song.
Will likely not sleep tonight,
Mollie F-W, Seneca Counselor
